If there’s one thing vintage Jags are known for, it’s running reliably year after year with cheap repairs and nary a hiccup for the owner. Wait, no. The opposite of that.

This Jaguar XJS coupe might solve that particular issue with the British powerplant replaced with a fire-breathing Chevy small block, but for nearly four large does this price reliably satisfy or is it the Prince of Darkness?

If this is still for sale when my tax return hits I’m seriously considering replacing the Miata with it.

Like my ‘87 300D, you have to remember that the car is more than its engine. The wiring harness is made of moonbeams and pipe dreams. The suspension is held together with bits that predate Margaret Thatcher. The steering is here and there, then it’s neither here nor there. Think about it ....

The reason I’m considering something so notoriously unreliable is that I now have a reliable modern car to fall back on, so I can sort of afford to be a bit crazy. Also I absolutely love the design of the XJS coupe, and have been wanting a big ‘murica V8 for quite some time.

@GenuineAlexReid’s V12 XJ-S has been perfectly reliable actually. It’s the only V12 Jag owned by someone on this forum as far as I know...
